What vaccinations are required?

Dogs: must be vaccinated against distemper and parvovirus, rabies as required by law, and bordetella.

Cats: must be vaccinated against distemper, and feline leukemia and rabies as required by law.

Because your veterinarian is the expert on your pet’s health, we ask that you provide us with written confirmation from your vet that your pet’s vaccinations are current. You or your vet may fax this to our resort in Coeur d’Alene at 208-667-6761 or to our resort in Spokane Valley at 509-290-6536.

Who can play in doggie daycare?

All dogs must be 10 weeks or older. Completed with their initial series of vaccinations.

We aren’t a doggie dating service. We prefer all dogs older than 6 months to be spayed or neutered. There are exceptions. Absolutely no females around their time of heat!!!

All dogs must be in good health and free from communicable disease within the last 30 days.

All dogs must be non-aggressive toward people and not food or toy protective.

All dogs must pass a temperament test. We offer a four hour free trial to see how they interact with other dogs.

What is a temperament test?

In order to play in doggie daycare or stay in our Luxury Suites, each dog owner will need to fill out an application and each dog will need to pass a temperament test. The application will ask you about your dog’s behavior and health history. The temperament test will judge how your dog will interact with the other dogs, and also makes sure that your dog will enjoy themselves at The Coeur d’Alene or Paradise Pet Resort and Doggie Daycare.

During the temperament test, your dog will need to stay with us for at least one hour, but preferably longer. Your dog will be introduced to one of our doggie daycare regulars. We observe your dog’s reaction to them. We are looking for any signs of aggression, such as growling, lunging, or baring teeth. If your dog does okay, he is then slowly introduced to the ‘pack’ in doggie daycare, and allowed to actually play during the temperament test.

If I live out of town does my dog still have to be temperament tested or come for the 4-hour trial?

No, we will allow them to come to play and we very rarely have an issue with the dogs not getting along. But if your dog were to cause trouble or become a threat to our attendants we would isolate them for safety of all. We have socialized many dogs that have never been to a boarding facility or doggie daycare.

My pet has never boarded before. How will he do?

All pets experience their ‘first time’ at some point, just as children experience their first time with a sitter. Depending on your pet’s temperament, they will go through an adjustment period anywhere from a few hours to one or two days. Younger pets adjust rapidly and enjoy the social interaction. Because we don’t board any pet in a cage, we have found that they tend to relax more quickly than usual, although there are always exceptions. Please don’t hesitate to call us at any time to check on your pet.

Is my cat placed with other cats during boarding?

All cats have their own townhouse for sleeping, eating, and relaxing. Cats are let out for individual playtimes, and are never placed with other cats unless that is your desire and they are comfortable with it.

Can my dogs and cats stay in the same accommodations?

Dogs or cats from the same family can be boarded together, space and temperament permitting. They would have to stay in a luxury suite to do so.

My pet is on medication. Can you administer it for me?

Yes. We will administer prescribed medications as needed throughout the day. Be sure to bring with you enough medications to last throughout your pet’s stay with complete instructions. We have a trained vet tech on staff to administer shots, meds, etc.

Shall I bring my pet's own food?

That is recommended. Many dogs have issues with changing their diet. Please bag food per serving or day.  If you choose to use the house food there will be a $1.00 per day charge.

Can I bring my pet's bedding and/or toys?

Yes. You may bring whatever you would like to help your pet’s visit be more comfortable for him or her.

What if I don't want my dog out playing with the other dogs?

Then maybe the Resort isn’t for your pet. Kenneling is a word we here at the Resort don’t like to use. We do not kennel your pets. Of course, there are always exceptions. If there is a medical condition that would keep them from being in any of our play areas then of course we can make other arrangements. We want to always provide the best care for your pet. Other wise it’s play time!
